Access to Justice present three awards during the  AALS Annual Meeting each January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\">Prior Award Recipients<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\">\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\"><strong>Lifetime Achievement Award<\/strong><br>The AALS Pro Bono &amp; Access to Justice Section Lifetime Achievement Award honors those who have<br>significantly advanced pro bono and public service in the law school setting over the course of their<br>career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\">Who may be nominated: Any Dean, faculty, or staff at an AALS member school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\">Evaluation Factors include some or all of the following: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Length of career\/service in law school setting. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nominators can discuss how the nominee has significantly advanced pro bono and public service in the law school setting though examples of some or all of the following: \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Leadership (How has the nominee inspired others to act?)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Program design\/management (How has the nominee created opportunities for others to serve?)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scholarship (How has the nominee advanced, deepened, or disseminated the discourse around pro bono and\/or public service?)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Innovation (How has the nominee changed the way pro bono and\/or public service is taught, practiced, or treated?)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Impact (How has the nominee impacted access to justice in the law school or broader community?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal pro bono service (How has the nominee set an example of pro bono<br>service?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\">\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\"><strong>Access to Justice Award<\/strong><br>The AALS Pro Bono &amp; Access to Justice Section Access to Justice Award honors those who manage Pro Bono Programs and who have removed barriers to justice and\/or improved legal services to individuals<br>unable to pay for such services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\">Who may be nominated: Any Dean, faculty, or staff at an AALS member school who has<br>designed or managed a pro bono program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\">Evaluation factors include some or all of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the nominee manages a Pro Bono Program, what has been the impact of the pro bono program on clients, the surrounding community, and law students\/law school?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How has the nominee increased awareness of the role law students and lawyers should play in addressing the justice gap?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How has the nominee otherwise advanced the access to justice movement?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How has the nominee addressed systemic access to justice issues?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\">\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\"><strong>Emerging Leader Award<\/strong><br>The AALS Pro Bono &amp; Access to Justice Section Emerging Leader Award honors early-to-mid career staff or faculty who have made an outstanding contribution to pro bono and public service in the law school setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\">Who may be nominated: Faculty or staff at an AALS member school who have been working in a<br>pro bono\/public service role at a law school for approximately two to six years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\">Evaluation factors may include some or all of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Leadership (How has the nominee inspired others to act?)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Program design\/management (How has the nominee created opportunities for others to serve?)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scholarship (How has the nominee advanced, deepened, or disseminated the discourse around pro bono and\/or public service?)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Innovation (How has the nominee changed the way pro bono and\/or public service is<br>taught, practiced, or treated?)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Impact (How has the nominee impacted access to justice in the law school or broader community?)<br>Personal pro bono service (How has the nominee set an example of pro bono service?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\">\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\"><strong>NOMINATION GUIDANCE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nomination deadline is mid-September of each year (2024 deadline will be posted).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nominations of others or oneself may be made by any member of AALS.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Re-nomination of persons who have been previously nominated but not selected is encouraged.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>See <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1YEhswY9NLmjVfNLO1Jr5kFCz09x91VD5\/view\">list of prior awardees<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Email a nomination letter (no longer than 5 pages) to Cate Carbonaro, Secretary of the AALS Section on Pro Bono and Access to Justice, at <a href=\"mailto:ccarbona4@tourolaw.edu\">ccarbona4@tourolaw.edu<\/a>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nomination letters may be accompanied by no more than three letters of support.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Please use a descriptive subject line such as \u201cNomination of xxx by xxx for the xxx Award,\u201d or \u201cLetter of support for nomination of xxx for xxx award from xxx.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optimally the nomination and letters of support will be submitted together as one PDF.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\">Contact Cate Carbonaro (<a href=\"mailto:ccarbona4@tourolaw.edu\">ccarbona4@tourolaw.edu<\/a>) with questions.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The AALS Section on Pro Bono &amp;
